The 2.5 x type Petrol version has an official top speed of 140 mph and will get from 0 - 60 in 7.9 seconds. There is so little difference that I would hazard a guess that a well tuned diesel could well out perform the petrol version. The s type 2.7 litre diesel performs almost as well as the 3.0 litre petrol model in spite of being 90 kg heavier.
Recently, I got rid of my X-type 2.2D saloon. I look into S-type 2.7 diesel, it wasn't easy to find manual version of that car. I have tested the auto, it seems OK for me, but I felt prefer the manual if I can find one. The salesman said the auto is more popular on the S-type diesel.

I have been unable to locate the turbo solenoid/actuator on my 2005 2.7 diesel, despite having spent a couple of hours on this forum looking for info & using the several photos relating to how these items are repaired, particularly the soldering of a "dry" spot weld on an internal wire.

The pick up for the heater is sat just as low as the main pick up. The quickest and easiest way to stop the smoke is to remove the fuse for the auxiliary heater control module. It is in the engine bay fuse box. 3rd fuse from the right, top row. 20 amp. Remove this and no more smoke.
