Posted January 5, 2011. I purchased a brand new S Type 2.7D SE in September 2006. After about 2 years it developed a chirping noise, like a load of sparrows under the bonnet. The dealer fitted a new auxiliary drive belt and this appeared to cure the problem. Unfortunately the noise returned about a year later and once again a new aux drive belt The success of the 2.7-litre diesel powerplant saw the 2.5-litre V6 engine phased out with some high value Plus models used to shift the last few units. The standard S-TYPEs also received the sporty bumper and grille from the S-TYPE R in the spring of 2007. The S-TYPE's reign came to an end in 2008 with the launch of the XF.
