Unlike home air filters for an HVAC system, highly efficient HEPA air filters work very well in a standalone air purifier. A HEPA air filter traps 99.97% of particles in the air. Like the MERV 13 air filter, particles as small as 0.3 micron are trapped by a HEPA air filter. There is one thing to be mindful of though.

HEPA filters typically remove 0.3 μm test particles with an efficiency of at least 99.97% including most microorganisms, from the airstream. Membrane filters Porosities of membrane filters range from 0.1μm to 10μm and the most commonly used membrane filter has the pore size of 0.22μm and 0.45μm.ULPA filters trap more and smaller particulate matter than HEPA filters. ULPA filters are 99.999% effective at removing submicron particulate matter of 0.12-micron diameter or larger, while HEPA filters are 99.97% effective for eliminating particulate matter of 0.3-micron diameter or larger. HEPA filters can be combined with pre filters to trapThe air filters are rated by a MERV standard 138 and European standard, 139 which rate filters from 1 to 20 in terms of their degree of efficiency (see Table 10.1).At the high end, MERV 17–20-rated HEPA filters are typically used in situations that require absolute cleanliness for the manufacture of microchips, liquid crystal display screens, pharmaceutical production, and microsurgery in
True HEPA filter (99.98% efficiency for particles down to 0.2 microns) that targets tiny particles. Activated Carbon filter: it is built-in into the HEPA-filter and has a honeycomb-type layer with activated carbon pellets to reduce household odors (smoke, kitchen smells, pets, etc.). What immediately caught my eyes is the lack of a pre-filter.
